Unfortunately, we’re still in the midst of a pandemic, and whether you’re unable to go out or simply prefer to stay home, date nights no longer just consist of dinner and drinks at your favorite restaurant. In fact, date night may be finding 1 hour together after the kids go to bed – or your regular morning coffee walk! Even during this season of life when we’re probably spending way more time with our partner than we used to, I think it’s especially important to create intentional time to reconnect.
While you absolutely don’t need to buy anything to make a date special, sometimes adding a few small “extras” can make it that much more memorable! Here are 5 ideas to take an average date night idea to the next level – comment below on which one you’d love to try!
Mix up something new
If liquors and spirits are up your alley, I highly recommend trying a cocktail kit. They’re unique, convenient (some even include alcohol), and are so fun to make with your partner – or just for yourself! Whether you’re wanting to create a new craft cocktail with dinner or looking for a unique mixology experience, these kits are sure to liven up the night!
For more information on cocktail kits and which one(s) to try, check out my blog post here where I discuss 4 different kits and highlight details of each!
Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime/HBO/anything & snacks, duh!
By this point I’m sure everyone subscribes to at least 1 of the many streaming services out there (if not all!) which means there are many, many, many amazing movies and shows to keep us occupied!
Of course, no movie night or binge-watching marathon is complete without your favorite snacks. Popcorn lovers will love these cute bowls, individual and family-sized! And don’t forget the seasonings (or homemade if that’s your thing)!
Learn something new together – about each other!
During quarantine I was gifted a very interesting game called “Love Language” – but it’s not exactly what you might think. With 150 cards exploring categories such as Individual, Past & Future, Sex & Intimacy, Family, and Couple, you are guaranteed to spark new conversation as a couple. Kevin and I have been together for 10+ years, and we definitely learned – and discussed – a few new things!
Curate a wine & cheese tasting
There’s no more classic pairing than wine and cheese, and I’m a believer that they taste even better in the comfort of your own home! We all probably already enjoy a glass of wine with dinner, but try stepping things up a notch by curating a personal wine flight and cheese (or charcuterie) board!
Most importantly, remember to have fun with it! Add some yummy compliments to your cheese board such as honey, peppers, specialty jams, or pickled veggies. If you’re looking to try some new types of vino, I highly recommend heading to your local wine shop and ask for recommendations!

Create a sensory experience
Do you and your partner enjoy massages? Hot baths? (Rhetorical questions, obviously!!) The next time you plan a spa night at home for your significant other, consider elevating the experience by utilizing all the senses and don’t be afraid to indulge in a few extra luxuries!
Physical touch is just one way to connect with your partner. Think about what scents you find calming, whether it be a candle, incense, bath oils, etc. How about a glass of wine, cup of tea, chocolates? Finally, push play on your favorite Spotify playlist and relax!
